3 Biggest Mistakes

September 28, 2008 by Admin · Leave a Comment

You’ve maybe known the 3 biggest mistakes any of us can make when looking for our dream job (and how to avoid them) … then you need to know the 2 words that guarantee your success so you can put them into your career search activity program

Most of the competition for your dream job is sitting at home moaning about their lack of opportunity. Complaining that NO one is hiring in my age group; my sex group; my ethnic group; my whatever… it’s never their fault that unemployment is their punishment.

Actually, excuses don’t pay and never will in our lifetime. It’s all about getting off the backside and doing something constructive for yourself. Nobody is going to show up and do it for you.

One BIG problem is that a negative attitude will cancel any positive thought in an interview. An Interviewer can see through the hype and recognize a loser almost instantly. You’re out the door before the interview begins, wondering what happened.

If you want to find success then you have to ACT like it’s already part of your life. Vibrations – our psychic – the real YOU is flowing out into your surrounding space. Everyone sees it but you.

Start with the basics – drive or paddle a row boat before buying the 400 HP speedboat with all the bells and whistles. Be yourself as you seek to grow and make a difference. None of us can be or perform outside our abilities. Trying to “sell” yourself beyond who you really are is a disaster waiting to happen.

Most folks who read – study – seek to learn – are light years ahead of whomever is in 2nd place. Just our offerings of material in the career field – tons of FREE info. – puts our reader 97 percent in front of the remaining workforce.

Getting your dream job is not about secrets or a hidden agenda that we’ve created. Basic principles learned – used – and put into practice will turn the tide for you in your career search.

No more delay – here’s your 2 words that will turn you into a successfully employed person in a career job of your choice.

And they are the two words that, if you master them, make you an indispensable part of any company you choose to work with.

What are these two words?

Have you come up with the answer yourself?

Let me give you a hint.

Everything you have right now started out as a desire to have it.

And you thought about it, planned for it, and worked toward that goal until finally, you could call it your own.

And in the moment you began your path toward achieving each goal, you made a decision.

A very important decision.

You decided to… TAKE ACTION.

Yes, take action.

Those are the two words.

Without taking action, you will not get your dream job.

By deciding you want your dream job, and by taking action to get it, you will guarantee your success, you will not fail.

What Are Your Career Goals?

September 28, 2008 by Admin · Leave a Comment

Today, I look at young boys and girls and wonder what they’re thinking. Is their Career or future livelihood even a figment of their imagination? Does it cross their mind in the course of a day? Where is their “head” or brain when it comes to decisions about making a living or where they will live?

Personally, I wonder! Interesting is the fact that my Mom and Dad had the same questions about me. Hard to believe but true.

Everyone seems to think the current generation is on the way to failure. Most make an excellent contribution to society. It’s encouraging to know that’s the case. Sadly, some do fall through the cracks and end up in jail, on the streets, or worse…. dead! Freedom is often too costly for some to handle.

As Parents, most of us do, want the best for our children. However, one of the worst things we can do is make fun of the decisions our kids make or put them down rather than building their self-esteem. Dream for your children but be happy with the choices they make in their career path. We have to accept them for who they are, whatever ability God gives them as their gift to society.

All I ever wanted for our children is for them to be their very best. It has not been my goal to direct any of them into the same mold or career path as we’ve enjoyed. Life is about living with integrity and good character regardless of where we are.

Success is not about making money or being rich. Yes, it’s nice to have the means to provide well for your family, but in society today it’s possible in most occupations for us to be successful and responsible.

None of us have to cheat our way, or take advantage of others in order to provide for our family. Not everyone is a business guru who can make tons of money without fail. There are risks involved in working for the business owner as well as having your own business. Often times a person ends up working twice as many hours for himself as he/she would be working for someone else to make the same income. Something to think about!

Many successful business executives work for others in the same industry before embarking on their own. Even then not everyone is successful because of hidden secrets or expertise. Few of us can really get inside where the details are known by the owners and kept confidential rather than spilling the beans to all the staff.

Understand there are risks whatever your decision about working for an employer or trying it on your own as the employer. As you might surmise, you’re on your own when leaving the comfort of a steady paycheck.

It’s never as easy as you think. Few people are as rich as you think. The first 25 years is the hardest then it gets a little easier…. so be careful how you put your business plan together.

The “BUCK” Stops On Your Desk

September 28, 2008 by Admin · Leave a Comment

You can OWN the business or be an employee working for someone else, it makes very little difference, the decisions are in your corner. Don’t look around for a scapegoat because they are all gone and you are “IT”. YOUR neck is on the line.

Reality says, you are the BOSS regardless of where your paycheck comes from. Maybe you don’t see it that way, but YOUR success is connected directly to “who you are” and what you are willing to invest in your job.

If you are an 8 to 5 person then I would not recommend a business ownership for you. YOU are NOT an entrepreneur headed to make millionaire status. It takes NIGHT meetings to rub shoulders with the “power-base” in your marketplace.

Even long hours have NO guarantees connected. Give all you’ve got and still 9 out of 10 firms FAIL to be successful. Not much encouragement to start your own business. It takes lots of time, money and skill to “make it” as a business owner.

Remember all the HYPE about the dot.com era. Money was flowing into their coffers like water runs off a duck, an unending stream of MORE money, the get RICH suddenly became POOR after few of the dot.coms discovered a niche to make a profit.

Being in business is wonderful if you have something valuable to bring into the marketplace. Most products eventually are a “dime-a-dozen” which kills many small businesses. BIG “boys” show up with competitive pricing that often are less than the small player pays to his wholesaler.

Be sure that YOUR product or service cannot be easily duplicated by someone else. Otherwise, somebody will “eat-your-lunch” and force you into a losing situation. Many of the big competitors play “hardball” with their deep pockets and you don’t have a prayer to challenge them.

Something to think about BEFORE you invest your money. Ask the right questions and know the answers before you put your money at risk, especially if you have to borrow it from your family or if you are thinking about asking the bank for a loan.

Ready for Your Dream Job?

Have you changed? Your job started out being what you wanted, but today it’s different. Maybe you thought of it as a jumping place to a better job in the future, but you’ve been here 5 plus years.

Satisfaction and fulfillment is your goal, not being in a “make do” position for an extended period!

It’s a fact that your dream job is waiting on you, so don’t continue in a miserable job, boring or simply unsatisfying, even questionable for basic survival. Your time is NOW to get out!

When people think of dream jobs, all too often, they think of the jobs that they thought about when they were children.

As a child, you probably thought about being a doctor or a lawyer, a nurse, even an astronaut when you finished college. Truth is very few of us kept the goal in mind for those jobs and gave up; in other words, you felt you were settling.

The problem is, many of those people carried the disappointment they felt from learning that they couldn’t do the jobs that they wanted as children into their adult lives.

Very few people follow through with their childhood dreams, but the fact is, those childhood dreams probably wouldn’t have made you happy anyway.

Your needs and beliefs about a good job when you were a child will be far different from your needs as an adult, and you’ll find that if you consider your needs as an adult, you’ll have a much better chance of finding your real dream job.

Think about what makes you happy, and what you need in terms of job security, monetary pay and challenges.

The first step in searching for your dream job is actually realizing that the one you’re in right now is not going to make you happy.

Have you been waiting on a promotion or raise that never comes, or do you feel that your efforts are wasted on a routine basis?

Perhaps you feel that they don’t appreciate you, or you silently think that you are so much better than this. All of these feelings are valid; the important thing to realize is that they are feelings that should be acted upon.

When you take a look at the feelings of discontent that you have amassed about your job, realize that you spend a quarter of your life at work. Your life is simply too short to feel like that for a fourth of it!

More people find their dream jobs than you might think; For a fact, it’s imperative to make your time count as you search.

Help is available for you to discover the career job of your dreams. Your mindset is key when you begin to look.

There is no time like the present, and you’ll find that you can make your own opportunities as you seek to discover the right career path for you.

Power Questions and Answers

13 “POWER” Questions Every Employer Must Ask… and The Answers Every Future Employee Must Give…

As employers, there is an imperative to hire the TOP 20% of the “brain-power” pool that is available in the marketplace. Either by searching the unemployed rolls or finding potential employees who are seeking new challenges, salary enhancements, better perks, and others who want ownership opportunities.

You ask, “why the TOP 20%?” or the Best 10%?

Maybe only hiring folks who qualify at the “mensa” level will do.
[Look up the word “mensa” if it’s not familiar]. Employers must keep employees challenged with new goals and opportunities or they will get bored and move on.

Can we prove specific brainpower levels are the key to good hiring decisions.
In most cases it’s only a small part of the hiring process. Without skills and specific talents, no employee is going to be successful.

It’s true, some firms deliberately “over-hire” talent wise because they feel more education or particular skills will eliminate the less desirable candidates. One of those hard to measure guidelines for most of us. It probably sounds like a better idea than we have proof to validate.

A Mission to Help Others

After 32 years owning several business entities in the marketplace, dealing with workforce issues and challenges, legal advisors, partners in business, successes and failures, it’s my mission to share the lessons learned in the SHK “School of Hard Knocks” with anyone who will listen.

Our focus is to help others envision their Dream Job as an employee or business owner. To learn from each other, to share experiences and expertise gained through business education as well as in the trenches of living life to its fullest. To give back to society, to friends and to all open to God’s guidance, love and faithfulness.
