Low vision from cataracts has been associated with an increased risk for motor vehicle collisions, falls, and depression. As healthcare costs continue to rise, primary prevention is key. Appropriate referral for cataract surgery may reduce costs resulting from treatment of these morbidities of visual deficits from cataracts. This project attempts to use those factors linked to poor vision to create an algorithm for primary care providers to use in deciding which patients warrant referral to cataract surgery.
