Book excerpt: The variations of the moon-earth distance and the inclination angle of the earth's axis to the plane of the lunar orbit during the tidal evolution of the earth-moon system are discussed. At 'closest approach' the moon was at a distance of 2.4 earth radii. The inclination angle of the earth's axis with the normal to the moon's orbit increased with time. Its minimal value was 12 degrees for the moon-earth distance of 4 earth radii. At 'closest approach' it was 13 degrees. (Author).
