We measured precisely the properties of these lasers to elucidate the origin of low-dimensional chaotic behavior that occurs in these devices and developed models that accurately reflect the observed dynamics. Based on our findings, we developed and characterized high-speed techniques for controlling and synchronizing the laser dynamics.
