Book excerpt: This project was designed for developing congregational leadership in Korean immigrant churches through the training program. Korean churches have traditionally been organized around strong leadership of ordained-ministers and placed no real significance to the leadership of lay leaders of the church. In recent years, however, there have been increasing awareness of this as a problem and that congregational leadership might be a key to the future of Korean-American churches. I have tried to develop this program in the context of Korea-American Presbyterian churches. In the PCUSA congregational leaders are ordained officer: teaching elder, ruling elder, and deacons. In order to build up congregational leadership I focused on ruling elders and deacons. The training program I designed includes theological reflection as well as the polity of the PCUSA. In order to reach the purpose of the project I try to approach three dimensions of theological support by studying the mission of the church, the wounded healer, and servant leadership. I hope the project can help congregational leaders in Korean-American churches develop their leadership in order to build up healthy congregations.
