Daniel Dole became a missionary to the Sandwich Islands - later called the Hawaiian Islands. He was the first headmaster of Punahou School. The missionaries would create the Hawaiian alphabet and print the first books in the local language. Sanford Ballard Dole was instrumental in the Hawaiian Revolution and the overthrow of Queen Liliuokalani which resulted in the end of the Hawaiian monarchy. He became President of the Hawaiian Republic and later, Governor of the Territory of Hawaii. James Drummond Dole became known as the Pineapple King and gave birth to a sustainable pineapple industry in the Islands through the company he founded: the Dole Hawaiian Pineapple Company.
