Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study was conducted to compare the performance of holstein x Haryana and Jersy x hariana halfbred and their purebred parental breeds for various first lactation traits to estimate the heretability and phenotypic and genetic correlations among economic traits in various breed groups to classify these breed groups on the basis of divergence analysis and to predict the life time production using first second and third lactation records. There was no significant difference between J and HF for AFC while other groups differed significantly from each other. The FDP was highest in Haryana and lowest in HF. The difference between breeds and between lactation number were highly significant. The lactation length in general showed a decline over the lactation except jersy where and third lactation records. Where it increased from first to third lactation. The phenotypic correlations of AFC with FLY (total) were low or negative and non significant and similarly between AFC with FLL in all five breed groups. The phenotypic correlation between AFC and FCL were negative and significant in J and HFxH and positive and significant in hariana. The phenotypic corelations between FLY and FLL were high and significant in all the groups except HF. The phenotypic correlation between FLY and FCL were highly significant for hariana HF and HFxH while the estimates were low and non significant for J and JxH halfbreds. The genetic correlations of AFC with FLY (total) and FLY (305 days) were negative in most of breed groups. The genetic correlations between FLY (+) and FLY (305) were close to 1 with FDP eigher negative or low while between and JxH and positive for HFxH. The genetic corelations of FDD and FCL were very high.
