Both kinds of oatmeal are packed in 2-pound cartons, some brands forty-eight and others seventy-two to the case, and in half barrels containing 100 pounds. Oatmeal should be stored in a cool, dry place, not near articles that emit odors. It deteriorates with age, and, therefore, the supply thereof should be frequently renewed. Olive oil is one of the constituents of the olive, the fruit of the Olea em-opcea or olive plant, which, -besides having the distinction of bearing the fruit that yields the finest food oil known to man, has also that of being the emblem of peace. The olive plant is a shrub or small tree, sometimes attaining a height of 20 or 30 feet. It has an upright stem with numerous branches, opposite leaves, small white flowers, and a stone fruit or drupe. The drupe is of medium size and ovoidal shape, and has a skin of a greenish, whitish, or violet color. The oil is contained in the flesh surrounding the stone. The olive tree is very long-lived, some specimens being considered 1,000 years old. It is supposed to have come originally from Asia. It grows well in Syria, and has been naturalized in the south of France, in Italy, Spain, the northern states of Africa, Mexico, and California. It has been cultivated from the earliest times, and is frequently mentioned in the Bible. There are many varieties of the olive tree.
