Book excerpt: This book started as research for a case study that examined how secondary school teachers in Haiti perceived their ability to meet the educational needs of their students after the January 2010 earthquake. The methodology employed a triangulated design through surveys, face-to-face interviews, and focus groups throughout the study. Results demonstrated that high-efficacy teachers effectively preserved classroom management by utilizing an effective instructional design that truly engaged students in learning even at times of harsh conditions, whether it is a pandemic alike COVID-19, a hurricane, school mass shooting, an earthquake or other types of natural disasters. The book provides additional information in relation to how educational outcomes are intertwined with teachers' overall greater sense of self. Teachers are classroom leaders and responsible for guiding their students to success, regardless of the challenges that they encounter. This book illustrates how values and effective communication can foster positive working relationships, and enhance culturally responsive management while facing adversities.
