Book excerpt: The purpose of this technical memorandum is to document the alternatives considered and evaluated for the widening of Iowa 330 between Iowa 223 and U.S. 30. For purposes of this evaluation, the project is divided into two segments, as follows: Segment 1: Iowa 223 to 285th Street; Length = 20.1 km (12.5 mi); Segment 2: 285th Street to U.S. 30; Length = 12.1 km (7.5 mi). The project concept consists of widening the existing 2-lane, rural highway to a 4-lane, divided facility. The existing roadway will be incorporated into the new facility to the extent possible, and two new lanes will be constructed adjacent to this roadway. A depressed median measuring 28 m (91.9 ft) between the centerline of northbound and southbound lanes will separate the two roadways. This location study provides an evaluation of widening alternatives to the east and west of existing Iowa 330 and evaluates changes which may be needed in the side road locations and intersection layouts for the new roadway.
