Book excerpt: Excerpt from Minutes of the Fiftieth Annual Session of the Tuskaloosa Baptist Association 1882 1. The Tuskaloosa Baptist Association met, pursuant to adjournment, on Saturday, Sept. 16th, 1882, for the purpose of holding its Fiftieth Annual Session. At 11 oclock, a.m., the Introductory Sermon was preached by Eld. J. M. Phillips, from Acts 27: 21, 22, and 27-31 - "Except these abide in, the Ship, ye can not be saved." Gods purpose to save sinners was the theme. 2. On motion, the Association adjourned till 3 o'clock, P. M., after which, it was called to order by J. B. Eddins, the former Moderator, and prayer was offered by Eld. L. B. Harbin, of the North River Association. 3. At the earnest request of Bro. Eddins, that lie should be released from acting any longer as Moderator, a motion prevailed to present the Letters, enroll the names of Delegates, and elect a Moderator, by ballot. The election resulted in the choice of Eld. T. M. Barbour. J. T. Yerby, the Staged Clerk, still acting. The Moderator requested Brethren W.H. Wilds and J. H. Foster to read the Letters. 4. The Moderator then gave an opportunity for new, or unassociated Churches to join the Association, when Delegates, bearing. Petitionary Letters, came forward from Mt. Olive and Pleasant Grove Churches, and were cordially received, and the Churches, according to their request, were attached to the 4th District of the Association.
