Book excerpt: Excerpt from Selection of Hymns for the Sunday School Union of the Methodist Episcopal Church The Sunday School Hymn Book, heretofore in use among us, has been considered, by those engaged in Sabbath school instruction, detective for Want of a greater variety of subjects, the inconvenient length of some of the hymns, and the unsuitableness of others. Being impressed with these defects, and with a view, as far as possible, to obviate them, measures have been adopted to make a thorough revision of our Sunday School Hymn Book; and the following is the result the labours of the committee to whom this needful work was committed. In this collection several of the hymns have been divided, others shortened, and a number selected from our standard Hymn Book, and others of approved character have been introduced; all of which it is hoped will be found acceptable and useful.
