Book excerpt: "Disc golf courses are typically designed by players through a grass roots effort. This applied thesis argues that in order to prevent negative environmental impacts, these courses should be designed with the help of professionals in the field of landscape architecture or those with knowledge of sustainable landscape design. The underlying assumption of this applied thesis is that disc golf courses are being designed by well-intentioned laymen who probably have no training or certification in sustainable landscape design. This applied thesis explores the design of disc golf courses by distilling principles of sustainability that can and should be applied in the design of such facilities. As an applied thesis, this project then implements these principles in the design of nine disc golf holes for Linbrook Park in Franklin Park Borough, Pennsylvania." -- Abstract.
