Book excerpt: This book describes the results of ground breaking research using a highly innovative system of astrology known as Vibrational Astrology. This research represents a paradigm shift in that it elevates astrology to the level of being an evidence based practice. The research was conducted in four phases over several years, and builds upon many years of research that provided the theoretical framework for the research. The first three chapters of the book review historical attempts to validate astrology, and this is followed by a chapter that reviews previous research using the theoretical framework of Vibrational Astrology. This research provided the essential concepts that were investigated in the four phases of research into bipolar disorder. The next four chapters are devoted to the details of the research on bipolar disorder conducted by David Cochrane and Gisele Terry, with one chapter devoted to each of the four phases of the research. The first phase of the research was a case study analysis of 25 of Ms. Terry's clients in her practice as a Marriage and a Family Therapist. The second phase of the research was an analysis of 912 people with bipolar disorder. These individuals have a date and time of birth from birth records. The third phase of the research was an improvement made to the astrological formula for predicting vulnerability to bipolar disorder. The fourth phase was a hypothesis test in which the formula was tested with 92 new cases of bipolar disorder. The results of the hypothesis test were very positive. The details of the research, including data visualization tools, exploratory research tools used in the early phases of the research, and the statistical analyses are provided. The reader also learns about the astrological techniques employed. These techniques are radically different from the ideas used by almost all astrologers. The last chapter provides some thoughts on the huge implications of this research for both the hard sciences and soft sciences.
