The paper seeks to analyse progress and challenges in these two areas of the Regional Programme of Action for the Women of Latin America and the Caribbean, 1995-2001, two years on from the last session of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean and five years on after the Fourth World Conference on Women. The last five years have seen the social and political visibility of women has increased, although the problem women's statistical visibility has not been resolved.
