Book excerpt: The purpose of the feeding trial was to determine the relative feeding value of artificially stack-dried alfalfa hay compared to that of field-cured alfalfa hay when fed to growing dairy heifers. The relative feeding value of each hay was determined by the growth promoted on closely balanced groups of heifers, with gain in body weight and increase in height at withers as the measurements of growth and therefore of the difference in feeding value.
