Book excerpt: A retired fireman is brutally murdered in the small village of Cromar, East Sussex. In doing so, he unwittingly takes on a paranoid schizophrenic as a future partner, which coincides with an escalation of murders in the East Sussex area. To complicate matters further, a local couple appear to have committed suicide by jumping off the cliff at Beachy Head.
